Walking the Carmarthenshire Coast Path
It’s safe to say the Carmarthenshire stretch of the Wales Coast Path is not the most coastal, but it does offer plenty of variety and some really lovely spots. Stretching from Bynea in Llanelli to Amroth in Pembrokeshire, this 67-mile path takes you along the Millennium Coastal Path and around the Taf Estuary, before returning to the coast at Pendine and continuing to Amroth.
Highlights of the Carmarthenshire section of the Wales Coast Path include stunning views of the Gower Peninsula, the pretty village of Llansteffan, a stroll through Dylan Thomas country in Laugharne, and some beautiful coastal scenes between Pendine and Amroth. However, if you’re not walking the entire Wales Coast Path and aren’t a lover of cows, you might choose to give this section a miss!

How Long Does It Take to Walk the Carmarthenshire Coast Path?
We walked this section in seven legs, although it could definitely be condensed into fewer walks.
NB. we began our walk in Loughor, just over the bridge from Bynea, as this was where we finished our Gower Peninsula walk.
A lovely 11-mile walk along the Millennium Coastal Path, with stunning views across the estuary towards the Gower Peninsula.
This one had some highs and lows, with lovely views and the beautiful Cefn Sidan Sands, combined with our first experience of Carmarthenshire cows!
We walked this section on a miserable day and luck just wasn't on our side! There's a lot of farmland to navigate on this one, including a few fields of cows, but still some lovely views to be had.
This walk had lots more farmland, a few more fields of cows and a fair bit of road walking, but also encompassed a pretty walk through Llansteffan.
The first section of this walk was absolutely stunning, with great views of the bay and some nice woodland walking. Unfortunately, we ended the walk with an incredibly sobering en-cow-nter which I won't forget in a hurry!
The highlight of this walk was definitely the stroll through Laugharne, where Dylan Thomas lived from 1949 to his death in 1953. The path passes Thomas' home before going along his Birthday Walk, the subject of his 1944 'Poem in October'.
This walk is an absolute beauty. Having made it back to the coast, we were rewarded with stunning beach views all the way along to Amroth, the gateway to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.
A walk along the Wales Coast Path is an amazing adventure, so what are you waiting for?!
